The Beginning

This is my first quilled design. Like all newbie’s I started with flowery pattern. Well, it took longer than I anticipated, but finally, it is completed J.

Usually, it is recommended that the sketch of the design should be made before you start quelling it. So that there will be minimal errors. But since I am just a beginner, I had to try creating simple basic shapes. So I went on creating the shapes, glued them together to form elements like flower and leaves. And when I was satisfied with the number of flowers and leaves I had, I tried different possible arrangements with them and finally ended up arranging them in a circular design.

Before I started quilling for this, I went through number of blogs and sites to learn basics of quilling and to get simple design ideas. The flowers with rain drop petals and big leaves using 5 marquise (eye) shapes caught my attention, hence I tried making those first. For now the only quilling tool I have is a slotted needle. I don’t have the stencil (it’s next thing on my wishlist J) so the petals and leaves are not identical in sizes and hence shapes. I had prepared one temporary quilling pad by wrapping a small rectangular cardboard inside a glossy white paper. But I did not find a good background with nice color to hold my design so I used my ‘quilling pad’ as a background. J

Here is the complete view.
